The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Sit down with your significant other and view Together. This 2025 indie hit just made its streaming debut on Hulu. Outwardly, it may seem like typical physical horror, but beneath Together resides a profound contemplation about how we choose to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together is the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a special spark to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when Tim and Millie transition from the urban environment to the country for professional reasons. A commonly used plot device, sure, but that’s primarily where the tropes end. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their country house, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, weaving in moments of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes during something horrific). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and delivers them in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A significant portion of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and removed from his support system. He dreads the idea of totally forfeiting his individual identity in another person. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie refrains from painting Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

The couple grapple with the kind of problems that come with most partnerships a decade in. At their core, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these anxieties of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism never feels overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for staying single. Meanwhile, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu as of this moment.
