A man who laced treats with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males both nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

However, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

Ruben played a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative continued: "This year his stepchild had worries about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated Ruben went on to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.

The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities once more.

She explained the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five children.
