Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important representative said the vandalism left him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
